About

My name is Andre Blackman and I’m excited about how technology and new ways of thinking can impact the field of public health. I like to help individuals, organizations and projects come up with great ideas on empowering communities to lead better, healthier lives. Tools such as social media, mobile technologies and integrated offline engagement are becoming very necessary to create the effective dialogues needed for lasting impact. Let me know if I can help you!

For the past seven or so years, I’ve been involved in health communications with a mixture of nonprofit and public relations work connecting with entities such as the CDC, NIH and other government/private health organizations.

How did I come up with this name? Well…

Pulse = Life, Health, “what keeps you going”

Signal= Technology, standing out, a prompt to action

Pulse + Signal will feature highlights and commentary on the impact/usefulness of technology (e.g. social media, mobile/emerging web tech) in the public health landscape, including health communication, health education and social marketing. In this new era of two way conversations, open innovation and an abundance of information, we’re at a great place where we can help change lives for the better on both small and large scales.

Pulse + Signal also aims to equip health professionals with the understanding of these new tools and how they can be useful for crafting meaningful movements.
